We are a small country estate (c.500 acres) located entirely within the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). We are committed to being a successful, sustainable and carbon-neutral rural business. Ownership of the estate appears to date back to 1086, but the hall with its surviving stucco frontage is likely to date back to the mid-18th century. More recently the estate and, in particular Church Farm (formerly The Glebe), is well known for being depicted by the famous English landscape painter, John Constable RA.

Proactive management

We’re happy if our customers, visitors and residents are happy. In our case, that means first and foremost looking after the land, our river and valuable wetland, our pastures, woodlands, wildlife, grazing stock, crops and marginal land. If we do that well, then we hope everyone visiting and living on the estate will be able to enjoy it for generations to come.

Regenerative agriculture

As we diversify we are also aiming to improve sustainability. We are working to improve soil health by adopting land management and farming practices that are underpinned by regenerative agriculture principles. More organic matter in our soil, fewer inputs and less disturbance strengthen the health of the soil we rely on and improve our yields.

Lhe Sq

Carbon neutrality

We measure, understand and act on our greenhouse gas emissions. Sustaining and improving on a net-zero carbon footprint helps us build business resilience and success. These commitments positively impact our ability to preserve and – in places – regenerate the landscapes we are responsible for.

Meet the team

We are an experienced team of equine, farming, shooting and estate management professionals. Most of us live on the estate and we share a passion for keeping its special place in this unspoiled and protected landscape.

Charlie Sq

Charlie Warburton

Managing Director

Charlie divides his time between LHE’s three core areas of business: the estate, the farm and our commercial property interests.  Our primary goal is to secure the future of the rural estate through diversification and by adopting better environmental land management practices. To that end, he’s delighted to be part of a very experienced and knowledgeable team!

Kate Sq

Kate Warburton

Livery & Estate Director

Kate is a fully qualified BACP counselling professional, entrepreneur, former amateur jockey and BE competitor.  She is the driving force behind the success of the estate’s various equine ventures. Her understanding of both people and horses is invaluable to the business.

Dave Robertson

Estate Manager

An experienced estate manager and skilled landscaper, Dave is responsible for all estate operations and, in particular, our luxury washroom hire business. Managing the estate team, our supplier and client relationships and helping to bring almost all our diversification projects to life keeps him very busy. Fortunately for all of us (and especially given everything he has achieved) his colleagues and wonderful daughters are able to keep his feet firmly on the ground!
